Thermaltake Meorb Low Profile CPU Cooler for HTPC Case with 4-Pin PWM Fan - CLP0527Okay, maybe I should be more specific. This is a great fan for super low-profile cases that don't generate a ton of heat and need to be silent.
I recently built an HTPC to put into my entertainment center. I bought all low power components to keep the heat down, and used the smart power function of my motherboard, but the stock CPU cooler was still spinning up around 5000rpm (trust me, I checked) under load and sounded like it was going to fly away. No need to point out that its not that pleasant to be watching a movie and listening to your CPU cooler scream away.
Enter the Meorb. I chose this cooler for its great ratings and because I found a review of it using my exact motherboard. If anyone is looking at buying a new cooler for their CPU, make sure you measure everything first, its not uncommon for coolers to interfere with cases or even RAM slots. After installation and power-up, I simultaneously streamed content from Hulu Desktop, Netflix On-Demand, iTunes, and Pandora Radio through Boxee. Then I sat right in front of my machine, watched the temperature monitor, and listened. The temp rose to about the same at it had using the stock cooler, slightly less, but the sound? Almost imperceptible, even with my speakers off. Moving back to my couch I couldn't hear it at all! I can not tell you how happy that made me.
So all in all, I highly recommend this cooler if you have the same needs I did. Great product.
